AKEBONO Brake Industry Co., Ltd. is one of the world’s leaders in manufacture of car and motorcycle brake system elements. It takes a leading position at a Japanese market. AKEBONO products have become a role model in the field of automobile brake system. Hundreds of highly qualified engineers in laboratories and AKEBONO research centers all over the world work to guarantee customers’ safety.
Akebono Brake Industry Co., Ltd. was founded in 1929 under the name Akebono Sekimen Kogyosho and produced friction facings for clutch and cabin cloth coat. Akebono’s expanding in Europe started in 1985 with establishing of Akebono Europe S.A. in France. Local research and development centre Centre de Recherché Akebono (CREA) was established in 1995. Its first European manufacture - Akebono Arras S.A. Company - was founded in 1998 and now produces brake pads for application in Teves brake system for Audi and Volkswagen. At the same time the most up-to-date independent brake system testing centre Akebono Brake Proving Grounds was organized. In 1997 an ISO9001 Certificate was granted for production of disk brakes in general and two years later Miharu factory was first to receive ISO14000 Certificate. Owing to successful business growth the company has considerably spread out and after 2001 large Akebono factories in Fukushima, Miharu and Iwatsuki were singled out as separate companies Akebono Brake Fukushima Manufacturing Co., Akebono Brake Miharu Manufacturing Co. and Akebono Brake Iwatsuki Manufacturing Co. Brake pads are mostly produced at Iwatsuki factory.
