Nippondenso company was set up in 1949. Having changed its name on the 1st October 1996 it was reorganized into DENSO corporation. Today it is one of the leading vehicle component manufactures in the world. The decision to change the name of the company was caused by the fact that the former name Nippondenso (which means “Japanese electronic components”) did not reflect the whole area of the company business activity any more, as now it also operates in the markets of Europe, Asia, and America.
More than 40 DENSO industrial enterprises, located in 18 countries, manufacture wide range of high quality products for motor industry. The company is one of the world biggest vehicle component producers. In 1997 it acquired QS 9000/ISO 9001.
In order to more fully satisfy the needs of its customers in the international market DENSO corporation has opened its branches in 23 countries all over the world.
Product range of the company includes the following items:
• electronic control products and electric accessories (including spark plugs);
• air-conditioning systems for passenger cars, trucks and trains;
• fuel injection systems;
• radiators;
• meters;
• filter elements.
Spark plugs manufacture is one of the main directions for DENSO. The company produces plugs for automobiles as well as for motorcycles, petrol-powered saws, lawnmowers, and launches. DENSO has its own exclusive developments such as U-groove ground electrode which promotes ignitibility even of lean-burn air-fuel mixture. The electrode has U-groove shape instead of the flat surface. The spark, like lightning, always strikes the closest point. U-groove ground electrode is a standard for most DENSO plugs.
DENSO’s latest achievement is a new generation of spark plugs with iridium alloy center electrode. After 15-years experience of applying platinum spark plugs, DENSO is coming into future with this new material. DENSO iridium spark plugs were developed for the latest generation of engines, their service interval can easily exceed 100 000 kilometers. Iridium alloy has higher wear-resistance than platinum, which enables to reduce central electrode diameter to 0.4 mm. DENSO iridium spark plugs are standard for new generation of Lexus, Toyota Avensis and Hiace.
The fact that DENSO is the main supplier for Toyota Corporation emphasizes high quality of the new spark plugs.
